Hawthorne-Cereplast has developed a breakthrough bio-based foamable resin to compete with Styrofoam and other foamable petroleum-based resins. Cereplast Compostable 5001, made from Ingeo polylactic acid, was designed to substitute polystrene foam with an environmentally sustainable plastic at no extra cost, the company noted. It can be used on conventional extrusion equipment, without process or screw changes.
