Dallas-Celanese Corp. last week said it will begin assessing the potential closure of a vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) and acetic acid plants in Pardies, France, and its VAM unit in Cangrejera, Mexico. The Pardies manufacturing facility has the capacity to produce 450,000 t/y of acetic acid and 150,000 t/y of VAM. The Cangrejera unit has 115,000 t/y of VAM capacity. If these units are closed the company said it expects to meet customer obligations with production from its facilities in Europe, North America and Asia.
