Leverkusen— Bayer MaterialScience said it will temporarily lower worktime by 6.7% in response to the effects of the financial crisis, "without resorting to short-time working for the time being" (PCN, 2 Feb 09, p 2) The measures, scheduled to become effective 9 Feb., will initially apply for nine months and will include corresponding reductions in salaries for non-managerial employees and temporary postponement of pay raises for managerial employees. Similar measures have been taken or are planned for Bayer MaterialScience sites abroad.
