Shuaiba-Kuwait Aromatics Co. (KARO) is conducting a feasibility study for a downstream project in Kuwait that would use paraxylene as feedstock, according to Board Chairman Bakhit Al-Rashidi. KARO's wholly-owned Kuwait Paraxylene Production Co. (KPPC) recently started up an 829,000-t/y paraxylene and 393,000-t/y benzene project at Kuwait's Shuaiba industrial estate (PCN, 4 Jan 2010, p 1). Al-Rashidi did not give details on the planned project, but noted it "involves using KPPC's paraxylene ... as feedstock." KPPC's benzene production is used by The Kuwait Styrene Co., owned 57.5% bv KPPC.
