Zhuhai-BP Zhuhai Chemical Co., a joint venture between BP (85%) and Zhuhai Port Co. (15%), is going ahead with a "major increase" in the purified terephthalic acid (PTA) capacity at its complex in China's Guangdong Province. The venture now has two PTA plants at Zhuhai with a combined capacity of about 1.5-million t/y. The second, a 900,000-t/y unit started up in 2008, will be debottlenecked, adding over 200,000 t/y and increasing total PTA capacity at the site to about 1.7-million t/y, BP said.
