Port Harcourt- Indorama EPCL, majority owner of Eleme Petrochemicals Ltd., is calling on the Nigerian government to establish the "Nigerian Petrochemicals Industry Authority" to regulate and encourage development of the country's petrochemical sector.Indorama acquired control of Eleme Petrochemicals in 2006 and has since completed a rebuild and restart of the company's facilities in Port Harcourt, Nigeria (PCN, 15 Aug 2011, p 3). Eleme has the capacity to produce 300,000 t/y of ethylene, 250,000 t/y of polyethylene, 80,000 t/y of polypropylene and 22,000 t/y of butane-1, and has plans to double polymer capacity.
