Heerlen- DSM said its DSM Specialty Intermediates BV (DSI) unit plans to discontinue operations by the end of this year, and will shut down production activities at the Chemelot site in Sittard-Geleen, the Netherlands, as of 1 July 2010. Citing "increasing competition" from China, India and other countries for its intermediates, the company explained that prices and margins for its products have been under heavy pressure for several years.
