The influence of intrinsic plastic strain-rate fluctations on the macroscopic tensile deformation behaviour of single-crystal specimens is discussed. It is shown that such fluctuations may lead to a diffusion-like temporal behaviour of strain that is superimposed on the average (deterministic) deformation kinetics. The results of the theoretical investigation are consistent with experimental findings.
