The specific features of the atoms with a half- filled shell following from the existence of two classes of its wavefunctions as well as determined by its S2l+2 ground term are considered. The explicit expressions for the photoionization and photoexcitation cross sections for transitions involving such a shell are derived. They are used for a consideration of the spectral regularities of some atoms with p(3), d(5) and f(7) shells.
