A theoretical investigation has been made of electrostatic acoustic modes and associated instabilities and dampings in a uniform partially ionized, self-gravitating dusty plasma taking into account the effects of ionization. ion-drag, ion-neutral and neutral dust friction. It is found that the ionization and ion-drag force play important roles in stabilizing or destabilizing the dust ion-acoustic modes. In a weak self-gravitational field. when the electron to ion temperature ratio exceeds the threshold value the ion-drag force destabilizes the dust acoustic modes. It is also found that the gravitational collapse can not be stopped by any value of the collision frequencies.
