The photon or electron stimulated desorption (ESD or PSD) of D2O and H2O adsorbed on iron surface covered with thin iron oxide film was studied with QMS. The photon energy was varied from 3.1 to 10.8 eV using a deuterium lamp and a Hg-Xe lamp. The electron energy was 30 eV. During photon or electron irradiation, water or hydrogen molecules were desorbed. During photon irradiation with energy <4 eV, water desorption was initiated by thermal effect. During photon or electron irradiation with energy <4 eV. water desorption was initiated by thermal effect and electronic excitation. During photon or electron irradiation with energy >10 eV, hydrogen molecule desorption was initiated by electronic excitation. During photon irradiation with energy <10 eV, hydrogen molecule desorption was not observed. Water desorption efficiency by these methods was also discussed. [References: 7]
