Both cosmology and topology reachback to the ancient Greeks and, likely,to the first humans who had any timeto think at all. However, it is only in thelast couple of centuries that the twohave become proper sciences. Eachrelies on what has come to be knownas non-Euclidean geometry, a branch of mathematics that forms a corner-stone of Einstein's general theory ofrelativity and is also required to enu-merate the possible topologies thatcould describe the universe.
