In september 1994 a group of physicists i and educationalists from Rome's La Sapienza university organized an international conference. They were concerned that physics educationalists had, over the past 25 years, shifted their attention away from the study of physics to an analysis of cognitive problems and teaching strategies. They were worried that inadequate teaching of "good" physics might simply have been replaced by good teaching of inadequate physics.
