PLANETARY scientists are now having to re-evaluate some cherished theories about Jupiter's structure as they analyse the first data sent back by the Galileo probe, which sampled Jupiter's atmosphere late last year. Jupiter is important to planetary scientists because it formed early in the life of the solar system and is considered to be a relic of the primitive nebula out of which the Sun and the other planets condensed.
