The Mars Curiosity rover has come under fire from a panel reviewing the scientific plans of NASA missions that have gone beyond their expected lifetimes. In a report released in September, the NASA Planetary Senior Review panel slammed plans for an 8 km journey during the rover's first extended mission, which began in August. This was one of the problems that it said "need addressing at the earliest opportunity".
