ControlledInteractionsExperiments withultracold atomstrapped in opticallattices hold greatpromise forsimulating the wayparticles behave inmore complicatedstrongly correlatedsystems, includinghigh-temperaturesuperconductors.
Ultimately, this process of quantum simulation couldhelp theorists solve many outstanding problems inmaterials and condensed-matter physics. In order toexploit this possibility fully, however, some key differ-ences between the cold-atom systems and the modelsof materials need to be addressed.
