摘要

A floating droplet of liquid will, as a result of surface tension, adopt a spherical shape. Rotate the droplet, however, and centrifugal forces will tend to pull it apart — making the droplet bulge along the equator and flatten at the poles. Spin it ever faster and the competition between surface tension and centrifugal forces should turn the droplet into a two-lobed, peanut-shaped, object. Eventually it ought to add a third lobe and even a fourth before finally becoming a doughnut-shaped ring.
