The optical transmission through a subwavelength aperture in a metal film is strongly enhanced when the incident light interacts resonantly with surface plasmons on the surface of the metal. Such interactions are made allowed by a periodic corrugation of the metal surface. We apply this principle on a near-field surface-plasmon activated device (SPADE) fabricated on an optic fiber. and demonstrate large transmission through a subwavelength aperture.
