摘要

Heat stress is non-discriminating. Under the right conditions, it can affectanyone. The intent of this paper is to explore the nature of heat-related injuries, current management techniques, and prevention methods. Because heat stress, at its extreme, can pose a life-threatening medical emergency, prompt recognition and initiation of therapy is vital in minimizing adverse effects and potential death. Understanding the physiological basis of thermoregulation in the body is essential. Clinical manifestations and treatment modalities of five heat-related disorders will be reviewed from currently available literature. The value of prevention is also discussed. Concluding remarks present implications for practice within the scope of the Clinical Nurse Specialist role.
