The primary goal of this research project was to conduct an objective study todetermine the effects of ergonomically designed chairs on the productivity of apparel workers. A secondary goal was to collect subjective data relating to comfort while using the chairs. Results of the study concluded the following: (1) Employees who perform a variety of operations throughout the day appear to have a significant productivity gain as a result of using ergonomically designed chairs. (2) Employees who perform a single, repetitive operation throughout the day appear to have no change in productivity as a result of using ergonomically designed chairs. (3) Employees using ergonomically designed chairs appear to experience considerably less physical discomfort during the day.
