This study (Phase I) investigated a thin-film colorimetric technique for detecting and measuring vapors of diisopropyl fluorophosphate (a nerve-agent simulant), dichlorethyl ether (mustard simulant), and carbonyl chloride (phosgene). The basic concept of using a miniature spectrometer to monitor the color of films prepared with nonvolatile colorimetric reagents is corroborated. Suggestions regarding further work are included, with recommendation that fluorophosphorous agents be selected for intensive development efforts. (Author)
