摘要

A characterization of spline functions that combines interpolation and smoothing is presented. This characterization forms the basis of two methods for constructing these spline functions. The first method deals only with smoothing splines and is described for the case of Hermite-Birkhoff functionals. The second,which incorporates the first,applies to the combined problem and is described for the case of point evaluation functionals. (Author)
