The paper describes a special purpose digital computer using straight line circular interpolation for the continuous programming control of milling machines. The paper discusses the following problems: the method of interpolation (contour and velocity); the means for path correction; the principles of programming; the technical realization of the system; and the technical specifications. The information containing elementary displacement increments (the machine tool programme) which the interpolator produces in pulse form, is processed by a digital to phase converter. The converter outputs square waves which contain the machining program in phase shift form. The square waves produced by the converter are recorded on magnetic tape. The program of the interpolator is prepared with the aid of a general purpose digital computer. The program for this was written in the Electrotechnical Institute. The structure of this programme cuts down the work of the programming technologist to a minimum.
