摘要

The report describes further work on FV 520B steel. It forms part of an investigation into the metallurgical requirements for acceptable strength, Weldability and fracture toughness in high strength steels. The work described includes results of fracture toughness testson welds made by low and high energy input processes, namely TIG and electroslag welding. Fracture toughness values, determined by general yielding fracture mechanics techniques, were similar for both slow and impact rates of loading, and the parent plate toughness was reasonably independent of temperature between -40 C and +20 C.
