In view of the difficulty of obtaining satisfactory separations of alkali metal ions by paper chromatography1-12, the possibility was examined of separating these elements by means of ascending chromatography with ion-exchange strips along the lines described in an earlier paper13.nAmmonium molybdophosphate (AMP) was chosen as the cation exchanger since this inorganic exchanger has a separation factor for pairs of alkali metals that is more than ten times as high as that of Dowex 5014-15.
