This report describes the work done at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in two experimental programs. In one program comparisons were made between comprehensive chemical kinetic mechanisms and experimental data for a homogeneous charge engine that was operated in either a spark ignited or compression ignited mode. The aim was to make an assessment of our ability to model the combustion of real fuels in I.C. engines. In the second program the effect of fuel composition on diesel engine performance was evaluated. In particular the effect of the chemical composition of the volatile fraction was examined for its effect on ignition properties and emissions of a direct injection diesel engine. Two analytics were prepared for this document. (ERA citation 13:012051)
