An inhalation toxicity study was conducted in groups of 7 mated New Zealand white rabbits exposed to paradichlorobenzene vapor at concentrations of 0, 100, 300, or 800 ppm (GC) for 6 hr/day on gestation days (GD) 6-18. Mortality, observed in 1 dam in the 300 ppm dose group, was not considered treatment related. Slight maternal toxicity was evident in high-exposure (800 ppm) animals by a significant decrease in weight gain on GD 6-18 (p<=0.05). The incidence of pregnancy was not significantly changed (Fisher exact probability test). A statistically significant increase relative to controls in the incidence of implantations undergoing resorptions was observed in the 300 ppm dose group (Wilcoxon test, p<=0.05). As a dose-related response was not observed, this effect was considered not to be treatment related. Significant changes were observed in preimplantation loss, litter size, fetal length and fetal weight. There were no significant increases in external, soft tissue or skeletal alterations observed in treatment groups. Paradichorobenzene: Inhalation Teratology Study in Rabbits.
