摘要

This paper commences with a short history of induction heating with references to the conventional single-layer type of coil design. It describes how international demands for energy conservation stimulated research and development into a new high efficiency multi-layer coil concept wich is economically justifiable. It discusses the transfer of technology from prototype to industry, including one selected case history. Water cooling techniques are explained in order to illustrate the recent further simplification of high efficiency coil design. The conclusion summaries the overall impact of the innovation.
