Findings from a study focusing on the quality of care being delivered to patients at the Falk Hypertension Clinic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania are discussed and recommendations stemming from the findings are offered. The research included a survey of patient charts which was intended to identify the adequacy of work-ups, the effects of treatment, appointments not kept, and complications, as well as a patient questionnaire designed to assess patient satisfaction. The sample included all patients scheduled for the clinic for a 24-week period. The report covers: (1) the characteristics of the clinic population; (2) patients' medical records; (3) clinic characteristics; (4) hypertension factors; and (5) patients' attitudes and opinions. Among the findings were: patient age distribution was appropriate to the prevalence of hypertension; 94 percent of the referrals were considered appropriate; 52.1 percent of the patients had a family history of hypertension; and 31.0 percent of the patients were employed or in school.
