This report provides information related to the earthquake resistant design oflarge light-water-moderated, central-station-power reactors and related structures. The earthquake resistant design requirements of reactors are similar in basic concept to the requirements of struc¬tures in general. Thus the information developed does not in all cases relate itself to specific reactor structures. The exception is with respect to reactor plant safety features which are specifically identified and discussed.nA primary objective is to contribute material that, with suitable modifi-cations, can be integrated with the contributions of others to become a part of a discussion paper on the subject of nuclear power reactors and earthquakes that will be written by personnel of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Another objective is to supply additional material for use in any further, more detailed paper on the subject that might be issued by ORNL.
