摘要

Experiments have been carried out in which 20/= chromium - 25% nickel 3~eels have been exposed in CO, based atmospheres at temperatures in the range 800 - 1200 C. Specimens oxidized in this manner have been thermally cycled to determine the effect of such treatment on the stability and adherence of the oxide films produced. The range of variables examined includes specimen geometry, direction and rate of temperature change, cycling frequency and cycle magnitude, in addition to exposure temperature.nAn attempt has been made to compare the strains which could result from oxide growth with those produced by thermal cycling and the absence of any spilling in isothermal experiments is taken as firm indication that a stress relieving process is occurring during oxide formation. In general the changes in spelling behaviour with oxidation temperature may be explained on the basis of the changing structure and properties of the oxide. Consideration has also been given to any effect of the above cycling parameters on oxidation rate.
