Empirical Relation of Stable Particle Masses

The paper is concerned with the observation that the masses of the stable particles (positive and negative muons, neutral, positive and negative pions, etc.) tend to be close to integral multiples of (3 me), me being the electron mass. The probability for random mass values to cluster around integral multiples of (3 me) as strongly as the experimental mass values is shown to be of the order of 0.001. A procedure to search for other likely values of a 'mass quantum' Mo was developed and is applied to mass values Mo from 1.0 MeV to 100 MeV. In this range the strongest clustering of the stable particle masses around integral multiples of Mo occurs for Mo = 2.9996 me. (Author)
