(Impact properties of a standard partially ferritic Type 347 weld deposit were compared with four modified Type 347 and one Type 308L weld compositions.nFully austenitic Type 347 weld deposits are less susceptible to embrittleraent when exposed to temperatures of 1100°P and 1300F than are the standard partially ferritic compositions. Optimum room temperature impact toughness of all compositions is obtained after heat treatments at temperatures of 1700°F and higher.nImpact tests at -320°F indicate that standard partially ferritic Type 347 weld deposits must be heat treated at 1950°F to assure a minimum of 15 ft. lbs. impact strength. This value cannot be attained by the fully austenitic Type 347 weld deposits in any of the post heat treatment conditions which were tried.nBoth at room temperature and at -320°F, Type 308L weld deposits show impact strengths superior to all other compositions tested, far exceeding 1$ ft. lbs. except when heat treated in the temperature range of 1100 to 1300°F.
