摘要

The use of software prototypes in the early stages of a system life-cycle to aid the transition from design to final implementation is discussed. It is shown how prototypes can evolve with experience and understanding. Formally based approaches which can lead to automated synthesis of software and the potential development of rapid prototyping environments are introduced.
