摘要

The study used crop growth simulation and optimization models to simulate yieldsand irrigation water demands for corn, soybeans, dry beans, and sugarbeets to evaluate available stream flow for irrigation, and to develop spatially oriented irrigation scenarios based on 30-year data sets of weather, stream flow, soil, and management information in the Cass River watershed in southwestern Michigan. The results indicated that irrigation may increase the yields of the crops by 16 percent to 214 percent over the non-irrigated crops. Irrigation water demand is greatest in July when streamflow in the Cass River is lowest. Irrigation expansion beyond maximum irrigation acreage limit could lead to streamflow depletion and damage to the fishery habitat.
