Based on the slender body assumption, the steady wavemaking problem of a three dimensional body is approximated to a set of unsteady two dimensional ones stepping along the longitudinal axis of the body. The free surface conditions are nonlinear. Two dimensional problem is solved by applying boundary element method, nonlinear free surface conditions are expressed by Lagrangian description and approached by finite differences. As an application of the method, the wavemaking of a slender body of revolution is calculated. The calculated coefficients of lifting force and resistance show good agreement with those measured at PMM captive model tests.
