摘要

This report presents data on science/engineering (S/E) graduate enrollment and postdoctorates for fall 1982, collected in the annual National Science Foundation Survey of Graduate Science and Engineering Students and Postdoctorates at 614 institutions of higher education with graduate S/E programs. Data on graduate S/E enrollment are tabulated by (1) enrollment status (full- or part-time); (2) level of study (first-year or beyond); (3) field of science/engineering; (4) sex; (5) major sources and types of support; (6) citizenship and facial/ethnic background; (7) control of institutions (public or private); (8) geographic distribution; and (9) institutions ranked by total graduate enrollment. Data on field, sources of support, sex, and citizenship are presented for postdoctorates and other non-faculty doctoral research personnel. Trend tables for most distributions are included. Survey coverage, methodology, and response rates are described and copies of the survey instruments are included.
