摘要

Crop-water production functions are estimated for potatoes and dry beans grown in Idaho. Profit maximizing water application levels are considerably less than common practice, indicating significant potential water savings if profit maximizing criteria are followed by irrigators. Investment in water saving technologies are not profitable with low cost water. Changes in water costs per unit have almost no effect on the profit maximizing water quantities in the short run. However, sufficiently higher water costs may make the adaption of water saving technologies profitable in the long run.
