The development of an analytic strategy for assessing the impact of social structure on personality, beginning with an initial analysis of the relationship of social stratification with values and orientations, continuing with the progressive refinement of models of job conditions and personality is reported. Interpretations and conclusions are included in this report of two decades of research.
