摘要

This study examines the thesis that embodied energy valuation provides a consistent means for pricing environmental factors. Air, land, water, minerals, biota, and other natural resources are used by economic processes. In this study, those resources are evaluated in embodied energy terms, which express the amount of sunlight energy used directly and indirectly in nature's production and use of those resources. The embodied energy values estimate the amount of work that an economy can achieve with the use of those resources. Based on both time-series and cross-sectional data, the embodied energy value of natural resource inputs to the U.S. economy was found to be correlated strongly with the dollar value of the economy's output.
