摘要

The report is of the development and testing of the utility of new social and health indicators and analysis of correlated variables, using as a data base the household interview survey of lower income areas of Nashville, Tennessee collected in 1968 for the Family Health Study. Explained variances of 26.1% for a Preventive Action Score, 26.7% for a Health Protection Score, and 33.1% for a Current Morbidity Severity Score will be presented, each with its own set of predictors, and explanatory power for each predictor in the set. The new predictors which were tested out in a variety of combinations to find the best fir for each major dependent variable include a Stress Potential Indicator, a Neglect Indicator of Unmet Needs, an Environmental Indicator, and several other new constructs descriptive of individual, family and household characteristics and based on a multi-disciplinary approach to the secondary analysis of the data. In order to measure the health of any defined population either in a cross-sectional or longitudinal research design, the necessity for constructing a series of Indicators to serve as dependent variables in the analysis of various dimensions of health status and health behavior will be demonstrated.
