摘要

1. The mathematical analysis established in a previous report (Reference 2) for the determination of the critical pressure in hollow cylinders containing radial cracks at the bore is applied to the case of a cylinder of large wall thickness containing a single radial crack.n2. The results are also applicable to the plane stress problem corresponding to a large thin plate containing an internal circular hole with a radial crack originating at the boundary of the hole.n3. Both the cases of uniform internal pressure (or external tension) and simple tension applied at infinity in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the crack are considered with a view to each of the above applications.
