Several heats of normal gray cast iron were inoculated with additions of aluminum, soda ash, zinc, magnesium oxide, or magnesium while in the molten condition in a basic lined, high frequency induction furnace. The heats were poured into special sand molds and the microstructure and fracture characteristics were observed.
