Included in the wide array of statistics routinely compiled and disseminated by211u001ethe Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) are those describing persons sentenced to 211u001eState prisons during the year. Prisoner characteristics are available in two 211u001edifferent sources: BJS reports that are based on State prison records, and BJS 211u001ereports that use data from State court records. This report investigates the 211u001eextent to which prisoner characteristics from one source match those from the 211u001eother. Results of the investigation indicate a close correspondence between court 211u001eand prison records.
