The quality of public education continues to be a top issue at local, state,211u001eregional and national levels. Public education is seen as a critical determinant 211u001eof a community's vitality and the productivity of its workforce, as well as the 211u001eextent to which its citizens are well informed. Key community stakeholders 211u001e(educators, business, families, community organizations, government agencies, 211u001ereligious groups) have long contributed resources to schools. Despite earlier 211u001edoubts that partnerships might be just another 'fad,' there has been sustained 211u001ebusiness, community, and family interest in collaboration over the long term 211u001ebased on the growing realization that improved teaching and learning nationwide 211u001eare difficult, enormous undertakings, which schools cannot accomplish alone.
