摘要

Clinical trials show that mammography screening among women aged 50-69 years canreduce mortality from breast cancer by as much as 30 to 40 percent. Thus, more complete mammography screening coverage is needed throughout the nation. This project was undertaken with a dual purpose: (1) to evaluate strategies used in the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) to reach women 50 years and older for the early detection of breast cancer; and (2) to assess potential partnership opportunities between public health and managed care organizations to increase the coverage of mammography screening. Currently, all states, the five territories, and twenty-five American Indian tribes are funded by the NBCCEDP to establish and managed comprehensive breast and cervical cancer screening services for women who are minorities, low-income, and age 50 or older, a population who seeks mammography services less seldom than other women because of cost, knowledge, and other barriers.
