A 4-year investigation of the Upper Floridan aquifer and ground-water flow system211u001ein Leon County, Florida, and surrounding counties of north-central Florida and 211u001esouthwestern Georgia began in 1990. The purpose of the investigation was to 211u001edescribe the ground-water flow system and to delineate the contributing areas to 211u001eselected City of Tallahassee, Florida, water-supply wells. The investigation was 211u001eprompted by the detection of low levels of tetrachloroethylene in ground-water 211u001esamples collected from several of the city's water supply wells. Hydrologic data 211u001eand previous studies indicate that; ground-water flow within the Upper Floridan 211u001eaquifer can be considered steady-state; the Upper Floridan aquifer is a single 211u001ewaterbearing unit; recharge is from precipitation; and that discharge occurs as 211u001espring flow, leakage to rivers, leakage to the Gulf of Mexico, and pumpage.
