摘要

The purpose of the study was to estimate the general magnitude and significanceof vault-induced geochemical changes over an expected range of temperatures. The results of the preliminary modeling are used broadly to evaluate the implications of these changes for the migration of radionuclides through the geosphere. The geochemical modeling program PHREEQE was used to calculate the changes in mineral solubilities that would result from the transfer of aqueous species from the vault to the geosphere or that would result from groundwater-granite interactions enhanced by vault-derived elevated temperatures. Modeling parameters were selected from reference cases in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and supporting documents that were developed to illustrate the Canadian nuclear fuel waste disposal concept.
