The authors conducted a study with patients in three family practice offices todetermine whether treating patients with acute bronchitis with an antibiotic (erythromycin) would make a difference in their cough, how they felt generally, whether they would miss fewer days of work, and whether testing for Mycoplasma pneumoniae would be useful in predicting which patients would respond best to the treatment.
