The induction motor is frequently applied in combination with a power converteras a drive system. By generating the stator current or voltage of the motor, the power converter controls the electromagnetic behavior of the motor. This electromagnetic behavior results in the magnetic flux and the electromagnetic torque of the motor. For example, a change in the stator voltage leads to changes in the flux and torque, according to the fourth order system of linear differential equations which models the motor. However, a sudden change in the stator voltage generally leads to an electromagnetic transient with substantial torque pulsation and stator current oscillation. The research has the objective to analyze a transition, with changing flux and/or torque, between two steady-state points of operation. The preceding and succeeding points of operation have temporarily constant electromagnetic quantities. The power converter has to control the transition in the induction motor such that electromagnetic transients are prevented and the stator current and stator voltage are reduced in magnitude.
